Answers To Questions You May Have

D and D
Alpha Academy is not designed for "at-risk" students. So who exactly is it designed for?

We have several "profiles" of potential students on our FAQ, but in reality our students come from all over the place. The common element for all of our students is simply that they lack a plan for their lives.

It could be as simple as the recent high school graduate who has no college plans and no job lined up. For him, Alpha is the ideal place to figure out what to do next. Or for the college freshman who realizes that he has no idea what he wants to do for the rest of his life. Rather than waste time and money changing majors, he could come to Alpha, discover what he really wants to do, and re-enter college with a clear focus.

Our most important requirement is that a student must want to be here: he is here because he wants to learn all he can while at Alpha Academy.

Some of our students have been pointed completely in the wrong direction, but have been through some kind of program, and are now ready to try again. For them, Alpha is a good transition from a very structured environment, to one where they learn to make decisions for themselves.

Use the following checklist to see if you or someone you know is a candidate for Alpha Academy:

  • I am approaching graduation with no college plans and no job skills.
  • I’m attending college, but know that I’m just “spinning my wheels”, with no real plan.
  • I’ve changed my major several times, and still don’t know where my life is headed.
  • I’ve dropped out (or been kicked out) of college, and have no long-range plans.
  • I’ve been in a group home, boot camp, etc., and want a place to plan out my next steps.
  • I have many different interests right now, and want help discovering what I really want.
  • I would like to “take a time out” and focus on what’s really important in life.

Here are some examples of people who may want to consider Alpha Academy:

  1. This young man is a senior in high school, and is not sure what direction he would like his life to take after graduation. Alpha Academy is a place for him to him to learn to make good decisions and set goals for his life.
  2. He is a young man with a GED or high school diploma, dealing with issues such as time management, initiative, and follow-through. The young man is not in any real trouble but is beginning to see his life drift a little bit.
  3. This student has attended an institute of higher learning and is on the verge of dropping out. Alpha Academy becomes a place to learn the life skills necessary to successfully re-enter college.
  4. This is a young man who has drifted quite a bit in his life, and as a result has been put into some sort of group home or boot camp. Alpha Academy is a place for him to plan out his next steps.

As you can see, there is no "typical" Alpha student. They all come from different situations, but they come to Alpha seeking the same thing: an opportunity to develop a clear plan for their lives, and to learn the skills necessary to realize that plan.
